Vaughn Ostland has served as Chief Operations Officer since early 2009. Dr. Ostland is a founding member of Intrinsic LifeSciences, co-inventor of the hepcidin patents, and is responsible for a wide range of management and R&D duties. He currently dedicates his efforts equally to operations and R&D and has been instrumental in establishing core operations such as developing laboratory protocols, business continuity procedures, designing and performing QA/QC procedures, directing the Information Technology infrastructure to provide operational communications, and maintaining regulatory compliance.
Vaughn plays a key role in R&D where he performs research and guides antibody development efforts against hepcidin and other biomarkers, and is involved in the characterization and application of these reagents in enzyme immunoassays. For the previous 9 years, he was Director of an aquatic animal health preventative medicine program that field-tested oral antibiotics and developed a multivalent injectable bacterin vaccine to combat disease for a large-scale US aquaculture company. He has over 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications and holds a PhD in Comparative Veterinary Pathology from the University of Guelph.
